Nordic Confucius Institute in Stockholm

General information

The Nordic Confucius Institute in Stockholm was founded in February 2005 in co-operation between Stockholm University, the National Office of Chinese Council International and the International Cultural Exchange School of Fudan University in Shanghai. The Institute in Stockholm has a great advantage due to its location and close association with Stockholm University, which is one of the major institutions for Chinese studies in the Nordic countries.

Teaching activities

The Nordic Confucius Institute in Stockholm focuses on providing part-time evening courses in Chinese. All the language courses are given recognized university credits, on equal terms with other Chinese Departments’ courses. At the same time, the Institute also strives to provide short-term language courses for companies; for example Chinese courses for leaders of the Swedish delegation to the Shanghai World Expo. The Institute also cooperates with the Swedish Workers’ Educational Association to hold Chinese courses in order to meet the requests of enthusiasts who want to learn Chinese.

Cultural activities

Besides languages courses, our institute also promotes Sino-Swedish cultural understanding. Therefore the institute also organizes conferences on various China-related themes, cultural events and public lectures about Chinese culture.The number of participants at these evens have reached about 3 000 and been very popular. The competition Chinese Bridge was held in cooperation with the Education Department at the Chinese Embassy in Sweden. The winners were chosen and these students later went to China to participate in the International competition where they were rewarded for excellent achievments. The participant in the university students’ competition received the third price and two of the high school students’ received second price and third price respectively.
