The Confucius Institute in Islamabad

General information

In April 2005, Confucius Institute was founded by The Office of Chinese Language Council International(Hanban), Beijing Language and Culture University, and National University of Modern Languages in Islamabad. It is the first Confucius Institute based on the all-weather strategic partnership between China and Pakistan, and also it is the first Confucius Institute in Islamic world.

Teaching activities

1.Business Chinese The Confucius Institute has launched Business Chinese language courses that are the short-term and intensive courses classified into three levels of Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced to meet the local business requirements. 2.Basic Chinese This program with three levels of elementary, intermediate and advanced offers Chinese language training for those who want to tour or study in China. They, after the training in a short time, can get basic skills in Chinese communication and general understanding of Chinese cultures. 3.Children Chinese Intermediate and advanced is mainly designed for elementary and middle school students aimed at stimulating their interests in Chinese language and culture. 4.Great Wall Chinese 5.PhD Program Confucius Institute Islamabad has offered a PhD program of Science on Chinese Characters for Chinese Department of National University of Modern Languages and Confucius Institute itself in 2009, which is considered as the second advanced Chinese language training program after pre-teacher training program.All courses of PhD program include Science on Chinese Characters (two periods every week), Modern Chinese (two periods every week), Ancient Chinese (two periods every week), Applied Linguistics (two periods every week), DaoDeJing (two periods every week) and Modern Chinese Grammar (two periods every week). 6.Taiji Course To teach Taiji 24 for 14 trainees with two learning periods each week. 7.Chinese KungFu Class On September 12, Confucius Institute in Islamabad opened the Chinese KungFu class and employed a famous KungFu master in Islamabad to teach Chinese KungFu.

Cultural activities

1.Spring Festival Party 2009.On January 20, the gala celebration party entitled “Golden Bull Brings Luckiness in New Year, China-Pak Friendship Alive Forever” was co-hosted by Confucius Institute in Islamabad and Cultural Office of Chinese Embassy in Pakistan. 2.Chinese Language Interpretation for President of Pakistan.On January 20, 2009, president Zardari received Wei Chuyu, Chinese famous calligraphy and painting artist. Sabiha and Nasir Din from Confucius Institute Islamabad interpreted for them. 3.The Donation Ceremony of Benzi Car from Liu Jiang to the Institute. On February 9, the gala celebration party for Spring Festival and the Donation Ceremony of Benzi Car from Liu Jiang, Vice-chairman of Overseas Chinese Association to Confucius Institute Islamabad was grandly held in Holiday Hotel in Islamabad. 4.The Delegation of Chinese Writers Visited Confucius Institute.On March 3, the delegation of Chinese writers under the leadership of Ye Xin, vice-chairman of Chinese Writers Association visited Confucius Institute in Islamabad. 5.The Institute Donated Books to FAST University.On April 20, Confucius Institute not only visited FAST University, but also discussed with Mr. Aftab, dean of studies and Mr. Kazaim, head of library on the issue of opening Chinese language course as optional course in class and establishing a Chinese corner in library. 6.Ambassador Luo Zhaohui Met with Two Volunteers of the Institute.On April 27, Luo Zhaohui, ambassador of China in Pakistan cordially met with two volunteers Zheng Mingzhe and Liu Jie who would work in Confucius Institute Islamabad.
