Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College Holds Celebration of Dragon Boat Festival

Local time June 25, the Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College held a celebration of Dragon Boat Festival at the Language Centre of the school.

At 10:00am, Jenny Bromley, Vice-Principal and Director of the Confucius Classroom, gave a welcome speech to all the students and teachers attending the event. Jijun Yang, Chinese Director of the Confucius Classroom, gave a brief introduction about Dragon Boat Festival. Then all the participants watched a video from YouTube, having learned about the history, customs and traditions of Dragon Boat Festival.

After the video show, some students, following Jijun Yang, learned how to sew sachets filled with lavender. Others, instructed by Lingna Shang and Dan Liu, two Chinese teachers, learned how to wrap Zongzi(rice dumplings), filling them with glutinous rice, dates and red beans, and tying them with red strings.

At the end of the celebration, all the participants and 11 Chinese students studying at the school tasted Zongzi, They have also developed a better understanding of the traditional Chinese festival.
