Ballarat Art Gallery Holds Chinese Language and Cultural Experience Event

Local time 7 March, Jijun Yang, Chinese Director of Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College, Lingna Shang and Dan Liu, teachers of Chinese, went to Ballarat Art Gallery and held an event of Chinese language and culture experience.

The event started at 2:30 pm. Jingjing Zhang, Cultural Ambassador of Ballarat, gave a short speech of welcome to all the participants.

At the first part of the event, Jijun Yang demonstrated Chinese calligraphy and taught a number of Chinese characters such as “Shan”(hill), “Ri”(sun), “Yue”(moon) etc. Then he taught “Zhongguo Jia You”(Stay Strong China) in order to support the fight against Covid-19 in China.

After that, Lingna Shang and Yuxiang Han, a Chinese student studying at Mount Clear College, demonstrated and taught ink-blowing painting of the plum blossom. Everybody poured a little ink onto the paper in front of them and started to blow with a straw. When the painting was completed, some of the citizens asked Jijun Yang to write a verse describing the flower beside the painting.

Finally, Jijun Yang demonstrated and taught all the participants Taichi.

The event was one part of Ballarat’s Harmony Fest.
