Oceans Apart, Love and Support Expressed by Words and Actions: “We Will Always Stand with You”

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, teachers and students of Confucius Institutes around the world and presidents of universities where these institutes are have extended condolence through letters and expressed support by making videos or donating supplies. They have offered sincere blessings in various forms to stand with China in the fight against the epidemic.

We Will Always Stand with You

In a recent letter to the Confucius Institute Headquarters, M. E. Luis Alberto Fierro Ramírez, President of Chihuahua Autonomous University of Mexico, stated that “all teachers and students would like to express our most sincere concern and condolences to the epidemic situation that China is experiencing. At the same time, thank you very much for your concern about and convenience provided for Mexican students.

We would like to reiterate our support to you, and that we will always be with you.”

Jose Williams, president of Yucatan Autonomous University of Mexico, expressed that “on behalf of the Autonomous University of Yucatan, I would like to extend my deep sympathy and solidarity to you and the entire Confucius Institute Headquarters in these difficult times. We are highly concerned with the coronavirus epidemic outbreak that is currently happening in China.

We are very confident that the government and people of China would surely emerge victorious in the campaign to combat this epidemic. We stand in solidarity against this unprecedented crisis, and we wish very much that all patients can recover promptly and we hope that the coronavirus situation ends soon.”

Anya Eskildsen, president of Niels Brock Business College of Denmark stated that “we here at Niels Brock are saddened by the difficulties that currently lay in the path of your students, staff and city. It is hard to imagine how challenging it must be. But please know that we keep you in our thoughts.

It is our greatest hope that beyond these painful moments some good will come. That we can someday use this current misfortune as a steppingstone to take us further down the Silk Road, stronger and more unified.”

Prof. Ibrahim Badran, Advisor to the President for International Relations from University of Philadelphia, Jordan wrote that “on behalf of all staff members of CIPU and Philadelphia University, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the entire Chinese nation in this extremely difficult time. I must say we were all utterly shocked and dismayed at the accelerating spread of coronavirus in China. We are very saddened to hear of the loss of a number of Chinese people due to this insidious virus. Words are never adequate in moments like these.

Praying for the ends of this virus. May China in this Chinese New Year, rise from the grave situation to the ‘paradise’ situation.”

Sergei V. Kharytonchyk, president of Belarusian National Technical University stated that “on behalf of the tens of thousands of staffs, teachers and students of Belarusian National Technical University, I would like to send my sincere wishes to the Chinese people and hope that all patients can recover soon. I am convinced that under the leadership of the Chinese government, China will definitely stabilize the situation as soon as possible and win a decisive victory over this epidemic.

Chinese universities are our close friends for many years and our reliable partners. We have been actively developing our cooperative relations and have achieved remarkable results in all aspects. I believe that nothing will affect the pace of our cooperation. Belarusian National Technical University will always be with you.”

Baranova Natalia Petrovna, president of Minsk State Linguistic University of Belarus expressed that “I would like to extend my sincere regards to you on behalf of all the faculty members and students of Minsk State Linguistic University. We are deeply sympathetic to your suffering and we are with you. We believe you will defeat the epidemic! Come on!”

Ronald Machtley, president of Bryant University of America, in his letter to the partner school China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), expressed that “on behalf of Bryant University, I am writing to express our heartfelt sympathy and to offer our unwavering support for friends and colleagues at Wuhan for your continuous fight against the coronavirus.”

Machtley mentioned that “since the beginning of the outbreak when the word ‘Wuhan’ appeared in the news, I have felt very personal about this tragic event. Wuhan is a beautiful city where I have been closely connected and appreciated through our many visits. CUG is a leading university where we have many collaborations and personal friendships which my wife, Kati, and I cherish.

During the past week, I have learned of so many moving stories from Wuhan about doctors and medical professionals who have been working tirelessly in the fight to combat the virus. I was so impressed to witness the building of two specialized hospitals, from the design to their completion, in a matter of days. I am sure that our friends and colleagues at CUG will win the battle against the virus.”

Professor Ioan Aurel POP, Ph.D, president of Babes-Bolyai University of Romania, Fellow of Romanian Academy of Science, expressed in his letter to its partner school Zhejiang University of Science and Technology that “on behalf of Babes-Bolyai University and on my own behalf, I wish to take this opportunity to express our deep sympathy to you and all the staff and students of your university, over the outbreak of the coronavirus, and to wish a speedy recovery to those who are ill and that your entire staff and students and their families be kept safe from this plight. I wish to express my confidence that the measures taken by the university and the authorities would help contain the spread of the epidemic and minimize the damage, and I hope that the situation will be restored to normal as quickly as possible.”

Guan Biling, chairman of Crestar Education Group stated in his letter to Confucius Institute Headquarters that “the sudden outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia also touched the hearts of our overseas Chinese, and we feel the same. Learning of the tremendous difficulties and severe challenges faced by the Chinese people, we are also touched by the Chinese people’s spirit to united as one to fight against the epidemic.

We are willing to join hands with friends in China to overcome the difficulties as early as possible. We also firmly believe that under the leadership of the Chinese government, the strong and brave Chinese people will be able to win the battle against the epidemic as soon as possible, and win a brand-new vibrant and brighter future.”
