“China Endeavors to Protect Not Only the Chinese People, But Also the People of the World”

2020 is destined to be an extraordinary year, with the outbreak of COVID-19 drawing attention of people at home and abroad.

In the first class of a new semester at the Confucius Institute at São Paulo State University (UNESP), Luis Antonio Paulino, Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Philosophy and Sciences at UNESP, Honourable Director of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Brazilian Director of the Confucius Institute at UNESP, told students about China’s efforts in fighting against the epidemic.

In the first class that Professor Luis Antonio Paulino has been giving the first session of each semester for four years at the Confucius Institute at São Paulo State University, in which he welcomed the new students and introduced the Confucius Institute to them.

He said, the Confucius Institute, as a cultural bridge between China and Brazil, is not only a place to learn a language, but also a place for everyone to fully understand and experience Chinese culture. It is hoped that more students can learn Chinese and experience Chinese culture.

When introducing Hubei University in China, the partner institution of the Confucius Institute at UNESP, Professor Luis Antonio Paulino gave an account of China’s current measures in response to the outbreak.

Professor Luis Antonio Paulino said, the Chinese government is taking all possible measures to prevent the spread of the epidemic. Hubei University, our partner institution, is located in Wuhan, a city around the same size as São Paulo. It is because China has taken effective prevention and control measures that the epidemic has been stopped from spreading to the whole world. It is important to remember that China has made great efforts to protect not only the Chinese people, but also the people of the world.

Professor Luis Antonio Paulino expressed his appreciation and support to the current efforts made by China to fight against the epidemic. He called on all of the students to join the Chinese people to fight against the virus. At the invitation of Professor Luis Antonio Paulino, around 150 students were guided to stand up to wave the national flags of China and Brazil in support of Wuhan and China.

Frasera Carrika, a student of the Confucius Institute, said, he has been learning Chinese for more than a year, and with the help of his teachers, classmates and staff of the Confucius Institute, he has acquired abundant knowledge of Chinese culture, having a deep love for Chinese culture. It is hoped that China can get through the crisis and overcome difficulties as soon as possible. Stay strong, Wuhan!

Ma Kaisa, a teacher of the Confucius Institute who teaches Chinese, said: “I have lived in China for several months and I have many friends and teachers whom I am very concerned about there. I hope everyone can join hands to get through it. Stay strong Wuhan, stay strong China!”
