At the beginning of the Chinese New Year in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic pulled the heartstrings of the whole Chinese people and overseas Chinese. Although there is a five-hour time difference between the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University and China, there is no difference for the teachers and students at the Confucius Institute who care about China. They are supporting the prevention and control of the pandemic in their own way, cheering for Wuhan and praying for China.

Take Active Prevention and Control Measures and Plan Ahead

On February 5th, local time, the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University held a special meeting to study and deploy the prevention and control of the pandemic in combination with the policy guidance of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya on pandemic prevention and control. It has formulated the prevention and control emergency plan applicable to the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University, and issued the Notice on Prevention and Control of COVID-19 to strictly control the behavior of teachers at the Confucius Institute during the pandemic period. At the same time, a leading group for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 was set up to guide the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University to carry out the pandemic prevention and control work.

Shoulder Responsibility Bravely and Deliver Supplies Quickly

As a Chinese saying goes, “I am at the end of the world, but my heart is in China”. Teachers of the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University actively organized donation activities, the donation of which was used to purchase medical supplies such as masks, goggles and protective clothing for the COVID-19 outbreak in China. When every bit of their efforts combined together, the power is overwhelming, and there’s nothing unconquerable.

Micro-lecture of “Assisting China Through Thick and Thin”

On February 7th, local time, the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University held a micro-lecture with the theme of “Assisting China Through Thick and Thin”, with Zang Xiaoyan, a teacher of the Confucius Institute, as the keynote speaker. Through this lecture, students of the Confucius Institute have a better understanding of the COVID-19, its prevention and control, and the determination of the Chinese people to unite as one to overcome the pandemic. They sent their blessings to China, wishing China an early victory over the pandemic.

“We Always Stand with China”

Students from the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University sang “Let the World Be Filled with Love” in Chinese, which was touching and moving. We isolate the virus but not love. The students are always standing with China, turning their voices into strength, paying tribute to the medical workers fighting at the frontline of the pandemic prevention and control, and express their thanks to all heroes for their dedication and persistence.
