Spring Festival Gala for Chinese Lunar Year of the Rat Successfully Held in Slovenia

The Spring Festival Gala for the Year of the Rat was successfully held at the Slovenian Youth Theatre in Ljubljana on January 20, local time. This event, co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Slovenia and the Confucius Institute at the University of Ljubljana, began with an exciting Chinese traditional lion dance.

The Spring Festival Gala was attended by an audience of about 600, including Zoran Poznič, Minister of Culture of Slovenia, Mitja Bervar, former President of National Council of Slovenia, Wang Shunqing, Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia as well as ambassadors from several countries to Slovenia, as well as representatives of local people from all walks of life, overseas Chinese, Chinese-funded enterprises and Chinese teachers and students working or studying in Slovenia.

Danijela Voljc, Foreign Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ljubljana, briefly reviewed development of the Institute over the past decade, explained the important role of the Confucius Institute in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Slovenia and China, and sent best wishes for the Year of the Rat to the guests.

In his speech, Wang Shunqing shared the outlook for China-Slovenia relations and China’s diplomacy in 2020. He also wished everyone present good luck and a happy family in the coming year on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Slovenia.

China, as an important partner of Slovenia, has seen many fruits form the cooperation in several fields together with Slovenia in the past year. People-to-people exchanges and mutual trust are important components of cooperation between the two countries, said Zoran Poznič in his speech. It is hoped that more frequent cultural exchanges and closer relations can be achieved between China and Slovenia in the coming year.

At the Spring Festival Gala, the programs jointly arranged by the teachers and students of the Confucius Institute, artists from China and Slovenia, and overseas Chinese impressed the audience deeply with the combination of Chinese and Western style. The traditional Chinese poetry, guzheng performance, acrobatics, chorus and other programs won warm applause from the audience. The environmental-friendly laser light shows used to replace the real fireworks also amazed the audience.
