At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. An Wenlong, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia, delivered a speech for the guests.

An Wenlong addressing the guests

First of all, Mr. An Rui introduced the twelve Chinese zodiac sign. This year is the year of the rat. Then, Mr. An Rui gave us a detailed introduction of the preparations for the Spring Festival. For example, Chinese people hang Spring Festival couplets during the Spring Festival. Every family will hang a word "Fu" upside down on the door, which means "Fu has arrived". Chinese people will buy New Year's goods before the Spring Festival. The New Year's market is full of lanterns, Spring Festival couplets, paper-cut "Fu" characters, the zodiac paper-cut pictures, they are all red, the color of red for the Chinese people has a special meaning, the Chinese people think "red" represents lucky and auspicious! In addition, every family will prepare firecrackers for the Spring Festival. From the New Year's eve, firecrackers will be set off before every meal. During the Spring Festival, Chinese elders will prepare "red packets" for their juniors, named "lucky money", which means "peace and joy in the New Year and everything goes well". When juniors receive "lucky money", juniors will bow down to their elders to show their respect and gratitude. Nowadays, with the development of science and technology, there are various ways to give and receive red packets. For example, WeChat and Ali Pay are new ways to give red packets. While watching CCTV's "Spring Festival Gala" at night, sending and receiving red packets in the WeChat group has become a necessary program for every home.

At the end of the theme lecture, guests also took pictures with the decorations, paper lanterns, paper firecrackers and the Chinese knot in the classroom.

Although the Spring Festival theme lecture is finished, people's enthusiasm for the Chinese Spring Festival still continues, and their love for Chinese culture is increasing! We believe that this activity not only increased the Spanish people's love for Chinese traditional festivals, but also promoted the profound friendship between the two peoples. Endless activities of the Spring Festivals, endless happiness in the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia.
