Confucius Institute at Hanoi University in Vietnam Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary

On December 17th, the Confucius Institute at Hanoi University held a gala to celebrate its 5th anniversary.

Addressing the celebration, Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, Vice Rector of Hanoi University and President of the Board of Directors of the Confucius Institute at Hanoi University, shed light on the great achievements made over the past five years since the establishment of the Institute. It has been committed to language and cultural exchanges between China and Vietnam and the spread of Chinese culture, as is evidenced by the successful activities such as “Chinese Bridge” competition, the Chinese talent contest, the Chinese song contest and the workshop on Vietnamese-Chinese translation skills. It has also helped many Vietnamese teachers and learners of Chinese language apply for scholarships to study in China.

The Confucius Institute at Hanoi University is a joint effort by Guangxi Normal University and Hanoi University. Deng Jun, Chairman of Guangxi Normal University Council, said since the establishment of the Institute, Chinese language teaching and cultural exchanges based on local conditions were developed to effectively promote Chinese teaching in Vietnam and enhance the exchanges and cooperation in education and culture between the two countries. The Institute thus serves as an important bridge connecting the two peoples and strengthening their friendships.

Peng Shituan, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, pointed out that the Confucius Institute at Hanoi University is a the result of cooperation between China and Vietnam educational communities. It is hoped that all parties will give continued support to the Confucius Institute as a platform for educational and friendly cooperation between the two countries. In this way, embarking from Hanoi University, the Confucius Institute can make more contributions in Vietnam.

During the gala, the dance team of the Confucius institute performed Chinese dances such as “Happy Days”, “Prosperous Times”, “Jasmine Flower” and “Picking Osmund”, and Vietnamese artists gave wonderful performances of Chinese traditional musical instruments. A Chinese song contest for Vietnamese college students and the Chinese Cultural Day were also held recently at the Institute to celebrate the event.

According to Luo Jun, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, the Confucius Institute at Hanoi University was inaugurated in December 2014. Over the past five years, it has been devoted to Chinese language teaching, the spread of Chinese culture and the deepening of China-Vietnam friendship. By the end of November 2019, the Institute had 1,772 students studying Chinese language, and nearly 29,000 people at the University have been involved in various cultural activities.
