First Overseas Test Center of CATTI Established in the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University

On December 6th, local time, the awarding ceremony of “First Overseas Test Center of China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI)" was held in the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University, which was officially authorized by the China International Publishing Group (CIPG). It is also the first overseas test center and the only one officially authorized by the CATTI in Belarus.

Oleg Ivashkevich, First Vice-Rector of Sinology at Belarusian State University, Vyacheslav Leonov, Deputy Director of the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University, Cui Qiming, Chinese Ambassador to Belarus, and Wang Jiyu, Director of the National Translation Test and Appraisal Center of the China International Publishing Group attended the awarding ceremony. Xu Rihua, a representative of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China, awarded the letter of appointment of Vice Chairman of Russian Expert Committee of Translation Qualification Examination to Anatoli Tozik, Foreign Director of the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University.

Oleg Ivashkevich pointed out in his speech that with the development of global economic cooperation, translation has become extremely important and will contribute to the cause of "building a community with a shared future for mankind". He is proud that the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University has become the first overseas test center in the world.

Cui Qiming spoke highly of the Confucius Institute’ s contributions to promoting education and cultural exchanges between China and Belarus. He stressed that he will continue to support and promote the development of the Confucius Institute, provide support and help for the popularization and promotion of Chinese teaching in Belarus, and promote the continuous development of educational cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Belarus.

Wang Jiyu said that the first overseas test center of CATTI at the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University is an important achievement of all-round practical cooperation between China and Belarus, and is also a link and bridge for deepening cooperation between the two countries. Relying on the examination cooperation, the two sides will gradually develop in-depth cooperation in the whole industry in terms of Russian Chinese translation training, comparative study of bilingual language ability, organization of overseas study tour services, bilingual teaching materials and auxiliary editing and publishing, book exhibition and cultural exchanges. They will also strengthen and expand the bilingual language service industry, serve the discourse system of contemporary China and Belarus to better serve the friendly exchanges between the two peoples, and promote win-win development of the two countries.

On December 7th and 8th, the first overseas test of CATTI, which was adopted the computer test mode, was successfully held in the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University. There are four test rooms in total and 95 candidates from China, Belarus, Poland, Ukraine and Kazakhstan signed up for the Russian level-2 and level-3 interpretation, and translation tests. The National Translation Test and Appraisal Center of the China International Publishing Group sent personnel to provide technical support, organize test training, and set up an inspection group to conduct inspection in each test room to ensure the test is conducted in a standardized way.

As a national professional qualification test entrusted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of PRC and implemented and administrated by the China International Publishing Group, China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters has been included in the list of national professional qualification in China. It is a unified and social-oriented professional qualification certification for translation implemented nationwide, and it is an evaluation and recognition of the bilingual translation ability and level of the participants in interpretation or translation.
