Book Donation Ceremony of A Study of Chinese Calligraphy and Da Xue Shu Fa Held in Changsha Hunan

Attending the International Chinese Language Education Conference on 10th December, Zhu Minshen, the author of A Study of Chinese Calligraphy and Da Xue Shu Fa, donated his works to the host organization. The donation event was witnessed and held by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (China) when Zhao Guocheng, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, awarded an honorable certificate to Zhu.

Da Xue Shu Fa was published in 1985. It was the first calligraphy textbook published for colleges and universities in China. The first edition sold 300,000 copies and had been widely praised. In 2013, in favor of English speakers, Zhu commenced to write the English version of A Study of Chinese Calligraphy suitable for overseas readers on the basis of Da Xue Shu Fa.

A Study of Chinese Calligraphy, sponsored by Classics Works of China International Publishing and published by Gale Group and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, hence came to public in August, 2019. It is the first English academic work which studies on Chinese Calligraphy that introduces the history, development and latest outcome of the said field. It fills in the gaps in the international sinology and plays an active role in spreading Chinese calligraphy culture.

This book will be available in more languages under the support of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, with a view to promote Chinese traditional culture to the world.

Jing Wei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, Niu Wenqi, Education Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney, Zong Wa, Minister-Counselor for Education of the Chinese Embassy in Australia, Che Weimin, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Mission to the European Union, Yan Guohua, Vice President of Beijing Foreign Studies University, officials from Department of Education of Hunan Province, Xu Wei, Member of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Education Working Committee and other guests, as well as the directors of other Confucius Institutes attended the conference. Liu Jie, Vice President of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, presided over the ceremony.
