The Forum on "From Silk Road to Belt and Road: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives" Successfully Held at the University of Valencia

On November 27th local time, the forum on "From Silk Road to Belt and Road: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives" was jointly held by Northeast Normal University of China and the University of Valencia in Spain. The forum was successfully held at the Graus auditorium of the University of Valencia. Carles Padilla, Vice president of the University of Valencia, Han Dongyu, Vice President of Northeast Normal University, Josep Montesinos, Dean of the School of Geography and History of the University of Valencia, Vicente Andreu, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia, and 15 other experts from the school of History and Culture of the University of Valencia and Northeast Normal University of China attended the forum.

At the beginning of the forum, Carles Padilla, Vice President of the University of Valencia, and Han Dongyu, Vice President of Northeast Normal University addressed the forum respectively. They expressed their common desire to consolidate the friendship, strengthen the cultural communication between China and Spain, and expand academic exchanges and cooperation between the University of Valencia and Northeast Normal University. Next, seven experts and teachers from the University of Valencia gave wonderful speeches. They introduced the historical impact of Chinese silk and porcelain on Spain during the ancient Silk Road, the Valencia community museum-the March Family Workshop and introduced how to use 3D technology to protect silk cultural heritage.

Subsequently, eight professors who come from the School of History and Culture of Northeast Normal University introduced the economic and cultural exchanges between China and Japan, China and Korea and other neighborhood countries since the ancient Silk Road period, as well as the history of silk trade between China and Spain and other European countries. Experts and scholars spoke their mind clearly and orderly in this forum, and made a discussion deeply on the ancient Silk Road and the "One belt, One road" in the New Era. They are full of expectations and wishes for the new development of economic and trade cooperation between China and Spain, and between China and Europe.

It is worth mentioning that this forum coincides with the 12th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia. At the forum, Vicente Andreu, Directer of the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia, introduced the efforts and gains made by the Confucius Institute since the establishment to promote the historical and cultural exchanges between China and Spain.

At the end of the forum, Jose Luis March, the owner of the March Family workshop, a community museum in Valencia, warmly invited professors and scholars from Northeast Normal University to visit the March Family workshop and took an active role as a cultural guide. He hoped to introduce more silk culture of Valencia, a city as the last stop of the ancient Silk Road.

The forum not only enhanced the academic cooperation and communication between the University of Valencia and Northeast Normal University, but also showed the new progress made by the “Belt and Road Initiative” on the promotion of economic cooperation and friendship between China and Spain.
