He also had a discussion with the Chinese and Ghanaian directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, and the Chinese director, Chinese teachers and volunteer representatives of the Confucius Institute at Cape Coast University. He gave credit for the remarkable achievements made by the two Confucius Institutes for their pioneering, innovative and active efforts. Tian also pointed out that quality is of vital importance for the Confucius Institute. First of all, efforts must be made to improve quality and to continuously improve the quality and effect of teaching by combining the rules of education and teaching with local reality. In the second place, the road of characteristic development should be kept on. With the Confucius Institute as a platform and by learning from the “1 Plus X” model of domestic vocational education, we can actively explore and promote the model of “Chinese + Skills + Certificate” in Africa in accordance with the development of local vocational education. In this way, skilled talents who understand Chinese can be cultivated so that Chinese learning will benefit both students and the economic development of the country as well.
