Wang Yang Visits Egypt and Attends Unveiling Ceremony of Confucius Classrooms at Luxor University

Wang Yang, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, paid an official visit to Egypt from November 10th to 13th at the invitation of Ali Abdel-Aal, Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament. Wang Yang met with Egyptian President Abel Fattah al-Sisi and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli respectively and held talks with Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament Ali Abdel-Aal.

During the meeting with Sisi, Wang conveyed cordial greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping. He made the remark that under the joint leadership of the two heads of state, China-Egypt relations have made historic progress. China is ready to work with Egypt to conduct frequent high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, actively promote pragmatic cooperation under the Belt and Road framework, expand coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, strengthen cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism and rich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

For his part, Sisi asked Wang Yang to convey his cordial greetings to President Xi Jinping and expressed his heartfelt congratulations to China on its great achievements made in the past 70 years, and was sincerely pleasant of the unprecedented level and depth of bilateral relations. He said that Egypt supports the Belt and Road Initiative and welcomes Chinese companies to invest more in Egypt.

During his talks with Ali, Wang said that political mutual trust is the solid cornerstone of China-Egypt relations, and that the Belt and Road Initiative has become the main line of China-Egypt cooperation. China appreciates the firm support provided by the Egypt government on issues related to China's core interests, and was willing to form synergy between two countries’ development strategies, implement major cooperation projects of great concern to the two heads of state, and further strengthen tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

During the meeting with Madbouli, Wang said that Egypt, at a critical phase of industrialization and urbanization and with huge market potential and demographic dividends, is a natural partner for China to build the Belt and Road Initiative.

During his visit, Wang also attended the unveiling ceremony of the Confucius Classroom at Luxor University and participated in a series of cultural events on the Confucius Institute Day organized by the Confucius Institute at Cairo University.

At the unveiling ceremony, Wang presented the Confucius Classroom with Chinese character materials, cultural readings, audio-visual products, reference books and so on. At Cairo University, Wang listened to a presentation of Confucius Institute by Li Hab, Foreign Director of the Confucius Institute at Cairo University, and watched a wonderful performance by the faculty and students of the Confucius Institute at Cairo University.

At present, there are three Confucius Institutes and three independent Confucius Classrooms in Egypt, which is an important platform for the teaching of Chinese and the promotion of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. The establishment of the Confucius Classroom at Luxor University will be an important platform for all sectors in Luxor and Egypt to learn Chinese and learn about Chinese culture.
