On November 8th, the Confucius Institute Headquarters Open Day was held, with the theme of “Devoting to Chinese Language Education and Promoting People-to-People Exchange”. Over 200 people took part in the event, including envoys from more than 30 countries in China, representatives from cultural institutions and 33 Confucius Institute partners, representatives from some enterprises supporting the construction of the Confucius Institutes, media representatives, representatives of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education and Xicheng District, Confucius Institute Scholarship recipients, and doctoral candidates of “Confucius China Studies Program”.

At the opening ceremony, the Confucius Institute Scholarship recipients from Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing Institute Technology and Communication University of China gave an excellent performance of “Ode to Ancient Chinese Poetry” and “Allegro”, expressing their love for Chinese culture and demonstrating the achievements of Chinese learning. Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, delivered a welcome speech. Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Malaysian Ambassador to China, Liu Li, President of Beijing Language and Culture University, Tang Hanming, a postgraduate student of TCSOL from Tianjin Normal University and Confucius Institute recipient delivered speeches respectively.

The Open Day coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute Scholarship Program. “I and the Confucius Institute Scholarship”, a story meeting of outstanding alumni, was held by the Confucius Institute Headquarters and 11 scholarship recipients from Egypt, Kenya, Thailand, the United States, Russia and other countries were invited to share their wonderful stories of learning Chinese and Chinese culture. Since the establishment of the Confucius Institute Scholarship in 2009, nearly 50,000 students from 166 countries have won various Confucius Institute scholarships, which have trained a large number of Chinese teachers and talents. Some of them returned to their motherland to become a Chinese teacher, some became cultural emissaries to promote exchanges between the two countries, some settled in China and became “China hands” ... Each story tells a moving story about the exchange of Chinese and foreign languages and cultures.

At the Confucius Institute Scholarship Forum, representatives from the recipient institutions and recommend institutions of the Confucius Institute scholarship held in-depth discussions on the opportunities and challenges faced by the construction of overseas Chinese teaching staff, the role of the Confucius Institute scholarship in training overseas Chinese teachers, and how to broaden and enrich the sources of scholarship funds and training forms, etc., in order to provide suggestions for the development of scholarship programs and the training of overseas Chinese teachers.

Since its establishment in 2004, the Confucius Institute has provided Chinese learning and cultural experience services to tens of millions of Chinese learners in various countries through language, cultural and spiritual communication in its 15-year development process. It has been widely welcomed and highly praised by people in various countries, becoming the world’s most diversified international language education community and an important platform for the world to know China.

During the Open Day, an exhibition entitled "15th Anniversary of the Confucius Institute" was held, showing the achievements of the Confucius Institute in Chinese language teaching and cultural exchanges in the past 15 years. In addition, the Open Day also held activities such as “Confucius Institute Headquarters Project Consultation Meeting”, “Confucius Institute Brand Digital Resource Exhibition”, “Online Chinese Test Experience" and “Chinese Examination Carnival” to attract people from all walks of life to pay attention to the international Chinese education cause, which was warmly welcomed by the audience.

Since this September, the Confucius Institutes in more than 150 countries around the world have successively held the “open day” to have the local people know the real Confucius Institute, experience the charm of Chinese and Chinese culture, which demonstrated the of the Confucius Institute’s philosophy of openness, inclusiveness and serving the local community.
