On December 28, local time, the unveiling ceremony of the Confucius Institute at Pau was held. François BAYROU, Mayor of Pau, Mohamed AMARA, President of University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour, Lu Shaye, Chinese Ambassador to France, Yang Jin, Minister Counselor of Education, Fang Jiaping, Deputy Secretary General of Xi’an Municipal Committee, members of Pau Municipal Council, mayors of each city of Agglomeration of Pau Bearn and Pyrenees and over one hundred citizens in Pau attended the unveiling ceremony.

Lu Shaye expressed in his speech that in recent years, China has established Confucius Institutes around the world, which not only meets the growing needs of people from other countries to learn Chinese and Chinese culture, but also plays a significant role in promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and their people’s goodwill. He expressed the hope that the establishment of the Confucius Institute at Pau will make greater contributions to exchanges and cooperation between China and France in culture and education.

François BAYROU expressed that both France and China boast splendid culture and a long history, people from both countries have long been eager to understand each other and communicate with each other. The establishment of the Confucius Institute at Pau is another bridge of communication between Pau and China. He believed that the Confucius Institute at Pau will certainly play an active role in deepening the friendship between people in two countries and inspiring cooperation in various fields.

The Confucius Institute at Pau, co-founded by Xi’an International Studies University, the Agglomeration of Pau bearn and Pyrenees and University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour, is the third Confucius Institute established in France this year. At present, the Confucius Institute at Pau offers a variety of language and culture courses like elementary and advanced Chinese courses for juniors and adults, children art courses and calligraphy courses, with over 100 registered students.
