Sun Chunlan Visits Madagascar and Confucius Institute at Antananarivo University in Madagascar

On November 5th, Sun Chunlan, Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, who is on a state visit to Madagascar, met with Malaysian President Andry Nirina Rajoelina in Antananarivo and held talks with Christian Ntsay, Prime Minister of Madagascar.

Sun Chunlan said that China and Malaysia have a long standing friendship. The two sides have always treated each other as equals with sincerity and friendship, and counted on each other's understanding and support. Under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, China-Malaysia relations have shown strong vitality and broad prospects. China is willing to work with Malaysia to consolidate traditional friendship and enhance mutual political trust. Meanwhile, China will effectively combine the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the Belt and Road Initiative and the Madagascar Revitalization Initiative to usher comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and Malaysia into a new phase through improving the level and quality of cooperation in various fields between the two countries and strengthening coordination of multilateral affairs.

Rajoelina and Ntsay said China-Malaysia cooperation has always adhered to treat each other with respect and as equals, and pursued mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, which is applicable to the priority development areas of the Malaysia, resulting in fruitful results and wide acclaim from the Malaysian people. Malaysia is willing to actively participate in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, enhance alignment of the two countries’ strategies and strengthen international cooperation so as to inject strong momentum into Malaysia-China relations, enabling bilateral cooperation to have a more prospective future.

During the visit, Sun Chunlan made a special trip to Anuciara Hospital to visit the Chinese Medical Team in Malaysia, and unveiled the Chinese Medicine Center with the Malaysian side. Then he attended the exhibition of the Confucius Institute at the Antananarivo University and visited the Confucius Classroom — Little Bird's Nest.

During his visit to the Confucius Institute, Sun Chunlan heard a local teacher's introduction to the development of the Confucius Institute (Classroom) in Madagascar, attended Chinese teaching and cultural experience classes, and presented 800 Chinese textbooks and Chinese culture readings to the Confucius Institute.

The Confucius Institute at Antananarivo University in Madagascar was established in December 2006 and its Chinese partner is Jiangxi Normal University. The Confucius Institute has the largest teaching scale and the largest number of Chinese test takers in Africa, and trained the most local Chinese language teachers in the continent as well.
