On October 26th, the Confucius Institute at Kansai Gaidai University (KGU) in Japan held the opening ceremony of its 10th anniversary celebration at the Tanimoto Auditorium of Gotenyama Campus Global Town of KGU. Nagasawa Hidemitsu, Deputy Mayor of Hirakata City, Tanimoto Eiko, Chair of the Board of KGU, Li Tianran, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate-General in Osaka, Zhang Wangwei, Vice President of Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), and more than 300 representatives from various sectors of society attended the event.

Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director General of the Confucius Institute Headquarter, sent a letter to congratulate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute at KGU. In his letter, he said that the Confucius Institute Headquarter will continue to support the development of the Confucius Institute at KGU. It is hoped that the Confucius Institute will make new contributions to promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges and friendship between China and Japan.

Tanimoto Eiko expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the guests at the celebration of. She fully affirmed the achievements of the Confucius Institute in the past ten years and hoped to cooperate closely with Beijing Language and Culture University and Confucius Institutes around the world.

Li Tianran gave high praise to the Confucius Institute at KGU in setting up a platform for China-Japan cultural exchange and cooperation to train young Chinese language talents and promote China-Japan exchanges. He expressed the hope that the Confucius Institute will adhere to intension development with its characteristics at a new starting point, continue to forge ahead, and achieve new accomplishments.

On behalf of Beijing Language and Culture University, Zhang Wangxi delivered a blessing to the Confucius Institute at KGU, and proposed that the collaboration among Confucius Institutes and universities should be strengthened to create higher quality Confucius Institutes and contribute greater wisdom and strength to its rapid development in the new era.

Ni Haidong, Chair of the University Council of BLCU, Liu Li, President of BLCU, and Zhang Baojun, Vice President of BLCU, delivered messages to express sincere congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute. He praised the Confucius Institute at KGU for its significant contributions to increasing mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation between the Chinese and Japanese younger generations.

During the celebration, the Beijing Language and Culture University Confucius Institute Partnership Alliance Conference will be held. More than 30 university presidents and Confucius Institute directors from 13 Confucius Institutes allied in the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Pakistan, and Romania attended the conference to discuss issues such as inter-school exchanges and the construction of Confucius Institutes.

As one of the important events of the 10th anniversary celebration, the 10th International Conference on Contemporary Chinese Grammar will be held at KGU, with more than 180 scholars from China, Japan, the United States, France, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries (regions) gathered to exchange the latest achievements in modern Chinese grammar research and show the latest development in research at home and abroad.

The Confucius Institute at KGU, the only foreign language Confucius Institute in Japan, was co-founded by BLCU and KGU. It was unveiled on December 16th, 2009 and officially put into operation on April 1st, 2010. In the past decade, the Confucius Institute at KGU has adhered to the principle of “serving the university, pursuing characteristic development, facing the society and building the brand”, paid attention to the features of the Confucius Institute, creating a well-known brand of Confucius Institutes, and promoting Chinese culture in an all-round way. It has won many honors such as “Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellence Award”, “Advanced Confucius Institute Award” and “HSK Excellence Award”.
