Indonesia Holds “HSK Exhibition on Studying and Working in China”—Nearly 10,000 Students Take Chinese Proficiency Test

The third “HSK Exhibition on Studying and Working in China”, sponsored by the Chinese Testing International Co., Ltd. (CTI) of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Badan Koordinasi Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin Jakarta (short for Jakarta Association), and organized by the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia and the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Education, was held in Bina Bangsa School of Jakarta on October 27th.

The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), jointly held by the Chinese Education Integrated Office of the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Education and the Badan Koordinasi Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin Jakarta, was conducted on the same day, with 9,516 Indonesian students participated in the test at different sites across Indonesia.

Fedor, Deputy Director of Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Education, Zhou Bin, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, and Li Peize, General Manager of the Chinese Testing International Co., Ltd. (CTI) of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, attended and addressed the event.

Zhou Bin affirmed that this Exhibition not only shows the achievements of China’s higher education development to all sectors in Indonesia, but also provides Indonesian students with information of studying in China and employment guidance. According to Zhou, the number of Indonesian students studying in China exceeded 15,000 in 2018, and now China has become one of the most important destination countries for Indonesian students to study abroad.

According to Li Peize, the number of students taking part in the HSK Indonesian Chinese Proficiency Test in 2019 will exceed 20,000. He said that five years ago, the Chinese Testing International Co., Ltd. (CTI) of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, based on the scale of about one hundred thousand candidates taking part in the HSK examination worldwide every year, initiated the Exhibition, which is held simultaneously with the HSK examination. Over the past five years, there are about ten thousand people participating in the exhibition in around ten countries every year, including Indonesia. Through this platform, groups of international students from across the globe come to China to pursue their higher studies in Chinese colleges and universities, or have found their favorite jobs related to China. Meanwhile, a large number of Chinese universities have established deep friendship with Confucius Institutes overseas and the HSK examination centers.

Bank of China and Jakarta Branch, which supported and participated in the exhibition for three consecutive sessions, provided both financial services and employment information as well as consultation services for Indonesian students. According to Zhang Chaoyang, President of Bank of China, Jakarta Branch, the Bank signed a strategic cooperative agreement with the Jakarta Association this June and is committed to carrying out extensive and in-depth cooperation in the fields of Promotion of Chinese Culture and Education in Indonesia, cross-border financial services, talent training and employment of Chinese language talents. Since 2017, the Bank has provided financial services for “Studying Abroad in China” program to more than 2,000 Indonesian students.
