Cuba’s Minister of Higher Education and His Delegation Visits Confucius Institute Headquarters

On the morning of October 23rd, 2019, Jose Ramon Saborido, Cuba’s Minister of Higher Education and his delegation visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters to discuss with the Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive the Confucius Institute Headquarters and relevant staff. The two sides exchanged views on the establishment of Chinese language teaching sites and the support for Chinese language teaching projects in Cuba.

Jose Ramon Saborido spoke highly of the positive role played by the Confucius Institute at the University of Havana in promoting cultural exchanges between the two countries. He said that the Confucius Institute has great influence in Havana and has become a bridge for the two peoples to communicate and enhance mutual understanding. Nowadays, China’s development has attracted worldwide attention. With the deepening of pragmatic cooperation in various fields between China and Cuba, there is an urgent need for massive Chinese language talents. The establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Havana has brought new opportunities to Cuba. It is hoped that Cuban young people will have the opportunity to learn Chinese by the study and visit in China. It is hoped that the Confucius Institute Headquarters will consider establishing Chinese teaching sites in Santa Clara and Santiago in Cuba to meet the rapidly growing needs of Chinese learning in the region. He emphasized that it is better to start learning a language at a young age. While expanding Chinese language teaching in higher education, Cuba plans to teach Chinese in primary and secondary schools, and hopes that the Confucius Institute Headquarters can provide assistance.


The visit to the Cultural Experience Center

Ma Jianfei said that the minister and the ambassador are warmly welcome to visit the Confucius Institute Headquarters. This visit will open up new opportunities for the exchange and cooperation in language education between China and Cuba. Ma Jianfei introduced the development of the Confucius Institute around the world. On behalf of the Headquarters, he thanked Cuba’s Ministry of Higher Education for the strong support to the development of the Confucius Institute, noting that the Headquarters will support the establishment of teaching sites in the two cities besides Havana in accordance with the educational cooperation agreement between the two countries. The Headquarters will offer help to launched Chinese language projects, and support Cuba in teaching Chinese language in primary and secondary schools while expanding Chinese language teaching in higher education, so as to help more kids learn Chinese and train more talents for China-Cuba friendship.
