Ballarat Holds Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration

On September 14th, local time, a celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival was held at the Art Gallery of Ballarat. Li Wang, Lingna Shang and Dan Liu, teachers of Chinese, and Jijun Yang, Director of the Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College, were actively involved in the organization and activities of the event.

The celebration, full of interesting activities and entertainment, attracted a large number of local citizens. In the handcraft workshop, local children showed great interest in lantern-making and paper-cutting, which was taught by Jijun Yang, Dan Liu and other Chinese volunteers. Jijun Yang, after playing the flute, demonstrating and teaching Taichi, was interviewed by WINTV News, a local TV channel. He talked about the history and customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

At the calligraphy and painting workshop, Li Wang taught how to use writing brushes to write Chinese characters, and Lingna Shang showed how to paint plum blossom with the brush. On the performance stage, Dan Liu played the Guzheng, a traditional Chinese musical instrument, winning a lot of applause.

Finally, a traditional Chinese lion dancing show, which also attracted a huge amount of attention, concluded the celebration.
