Confucius Institute Headquarters and Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies in North Korea to Establish Chinese Language Center

On the morning of September 27th, the signing ceremony of the Cooperation Agreement of the establishment of the Chinese Language Center between Pyongyang Foreign Languages University in North Korea and the Confucius Institute Headquarters was held in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. Park Sun-tok, Vice Chairman of the North Korean Education Committee, Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, and Hong Jingxie, President of Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches successively. Li Jinjun, Chinese Ambassador to North Korea, attended the ceremony to congratulate and witness the signing of the agreement. More than 100 teachers and students from Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies attended the signing ceremony.

The Chinese Language Center of Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies is the first of its kind jointly established by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in North Korea. It is of great significance in the history of Chinese language teaching in North Korea and the exchanges and cooperation in language teaching between the two countries. Founded in 1949, Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies is the highest comprehensive foreign language education institution in North Korea, with more than 3,600 students, including over 400 majoring in Chinese. Eastern Liaoning University and University of International Business and Economics are Chinese partners of Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies.
