China-Pakistan Joint Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition Held at the Confucius Institute in Islamabad to Celebrate 70th Anniversary of PRC and 5th Anniversary of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor

On September 18th, China-Pakistan Joint Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition was held at the Confucius Institute in Islamabad, National University of Modern Languages, Pakistan to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 5th anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Pakistani senator and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC and Chairperson of Committee on Foreign Affairs of Senate of Pakistan, Maj Gen Muhammad Jaffar, Rector of National University of Modern Languages, Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Cultural Counselor Zhang Heqing, and other guests were present at the ceremony and unveiled the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the painting and calligraphy exhibition.

In his speech, Maj Gen Muhammad Jaffar affirmed the unique role of the Confucius Institute in Islamabad in Pakistan and spoke highly of the contributions made by the Confucius Institute to the cultural and non-governmental exchanges between the two countries.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed congratulated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and noted that the construction of CPEC created jobs for Pakistanis and made great contributions to Pakistan’s economic development. He said, “Pakistan should learn from China’s development experience.”

Yao Jing expressed that, from the painting and calligraphy exhibition, we could see that Pakistani students’ Chinese language level had been elevated from writing to art appreciation. As the CPEC is a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, China and Pakistan are carrying out in-depth cooperation on culture, education, non-governmental exchanges and other fields. The principle of multilateral win-win results for the national construction of the Belt and Road Initiative brings peace and development for the two peoples. As the future of the bilateral relations, Pakistani youth will push forward the relations between China and Pakistan to a new height.

At the end of the opening ceremony, the guests viewed the exhibits in good spirits and spoke highly of the exhibition.

In this painting and calligraphy exhibition, 89 calligraphy works of over 30 Chinese prestigious calligraphers were collected, which were manifested in many fonts, including Oracle bone script, bronze inscriptions, seal script, clerical Script, regular script and semi-cursive scrip. The calligraphy art manifested was colorful and distinctive, with aesthetic tradition of classical calligraphy and unique features of the times, displaying special charm of Chinese traditional and cultural calligraphy. In order to help Pakistanis better understand the connotations of the works, the Confucius Institute in Islamabad specially organized a translation and arrangement team to translate the content of each work, striving to build the exhibition into a grand visual cultural feast, which attracted the attention of many young Pakistani students.

At the same time, some works of Jimmy Engineer, a well-known Pakistani painter, were also on display, through which Pakistani friends felt the charm of culture and art of China and Pakistan. This painting and calligraphy exhibition has enhanced cultural exchanges, promoted mutual learning between civilizations and spread traditional friendship with rich connotations and colorful art, presenting a gift for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
