The clear raindrops fell on the emerald green leaves, tapping high and low notes, and the fresh air filled with the spicy smell of Sichuan cuisine. A group of Thai students gathered in groups with plates in their hands, anxiously waiting for the food that was about to be served.

At the Confucius Institute of Khon Kaen University, the 363 square meters “Chinese kitchen” was packed with people, and the cook from China showed the exquisite kitchen skills, on-site explanation of the manufacturing method of the classic Sichuan cuisine. Thai guests experienced the taste of Chinese food at the scene when the food is cooked and presented to them.

Star anise, pepper, bean paste, vinegar, dried chili and other essential seasonings of Sichuan cuisine, and a variety of fresh ingredients, through the cooking of Chinese chefs, there had been a magical chemical reaction, giving off a series of enticing aroma.

Nattapong, a student of the Khon Kaen Vocational College, would like to have a try to cook the Boiled Spice Meat under the guide of Chinese chef after tasting the amazing Chinese cuisine. As soon as the meat was cooked well it was snapped by the long-awaited Thai audience.

Influenced by different regional products and cultural beliefs, different ethnic groups precipitate into their own rich and colorful food and culture characteristics in the long process of historical development. Liao Junyun, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Khon Kaen, said that Chinese kitchen activities will share a long history of Chinese food culture with more Thai people, so that they can have a better understanding of Chinese traditional culture.

Shi Liwan, a teacher at Khon Kaen Vocational College who led the team to the event, told the journalist: “Cooking major freshman whose taste bud were captured by the delicious Chinese cuisine are very look forward to come to China in person and discover a richer Chinese flavor.”

On August 30th, the Chinese food booths of Southwest University of China, Khon Kaen Consulate General, Khon Kaen University and many universities in the Northeast Thailand opened in turn at the Square of Khon Kaen University. There are 54 kinds of medicine & food exhibition booths, the gourmet culture picture book exhibition area, the tea products taste area embellished among them.

People lined up in front of the booth in a few minutes; there are handmade cuttlefish wonton, spicy barbecue, pot-stewed fowl and meat, hot dumplings, which attracted many people.

People can open a feast and experience cooking lessons, appreciate of ancient books and classics, and co-lead the bond of culture. In the “Chinese Kitchen” gourmet culture festival, it is presented a rich and colorful cultural meal except for cooking, learning and tasting Chinese cuisine.

On the stage, the teacher of the Confucius Institute played guzheng and pipa. In the square, Rongchang grass cloth, Woodblock printing technique, ancient books binding and other experience booths attracted a lot of audience. The children held up the “Gesang Flower” and “Rose” made by them with grass cloth with smile. In front of the booth of Woodblock printing technique, Santi held his breath and clearly printed out a Chinese verse “fishing man in a small boat wearing a coir hat and fishing alone on the river in the cold.”

Besides the delicious food, there was also a the cultural lecture. The Chinese Cultural Experience Center held a lecture on the traditional culture of “Beauty of Chinese Ancient Books”, which made Thai students appreciate the beauty of Chinese ancient books from the aspects of the source, shape, content and value of the plates marked with texts. “Ancient Chinese books are very difficult, and there are many fonts, such as official script, cursive script, and so on, but you can feel the beauty of Chinese characters," said Sadayu, a third-year student in the Department of Chinese at Khon Kaen University.

State-to-state relations thrive when there is friendship between the peoples. And such friendship grows out of close interactions between the peoples. “Today, it is delighted thing for Thai primary and secondary school students, college students, the people of Khon Kaen, and even the northeast region of Thailand in the whole. We can learn more about the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. When all the people who take part in the event return home, they will take away good memories,” Santi said.

With the continuous promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative, Thailand’s Chinese teaching scale ranks first among ASEAN countries, and the educational cooperation and exchanges between China and Thailand also show a multi-level, extensive and in-depth development trend, which plays a more and more important role in Thailand’s 4.0 national development strategy. The Confucius Institute of Khon Kaen University is the first of its kind in Thailand, founded by the Confucius University of Thailand and Southwest University of China. It has been established for 13 years. The two universities have jointly trained thousands of Chinese and professionals for the region. Hu Lin, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University, said that the event allowed more Thai students to learn more about China and experience it by participating in Chinese cultural activities and then discover the unique charm of Chinese culture.

The traditional friendship of “Jeen Thai Phee Nong Gan” has shown an all-round, wide-ranging, deep-rooted, and three-dimensional development pattern. “Thailand is actively engaged in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and the government is committed to building the trade, investment and service center of the Mekong River basin, and will strengthen the connection with China by air and land, including the opening of direct navigation, the construction of the Sino-Thai railway and further deepen its cooperation with China in the economic and cultural fields,” Khon Kaen Governor Somsak Jangtrakul said.
