On July 23, Andrew Hugine, President of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University of America and other 3 people in his delegation visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters and held talks with Jing Wei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, and other related personnel. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the running and future development of the Confucius Institute at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. Zhang Hong, Vice President of Nanjing Forestry University, accompanied the delegation during the visit. After the talks, Andrew Hugine and Zhang Hong jointly signed an implementation agreement on continuous cooperation of building the Confucius Institute at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University.

Renewing the agreement

Jing Wei spoke highly of the achievements made by the Confucius Institute of Alabama Agriculture and Mechanical University in Chinese teaching, cultural promotion and service to the community over the past five years, and thanked Andrew Hugine for his care and strong support for the cause of the Confucius Institute. She pointed out that the Confucius Institute Headquarters will continue to adhere to the established purpose of education as always, support the construction and development of Confucius Institutes, and further promote educational exchanges between China and America. She hoped that universities between the Chinese side and the American side that co-founded the Confucius Institute would continue to maintain close cooperation, further improve quality and efficiency on the existing basis, set up the Confucius Institute with its characteristics and high level, and make efforts for the sustainable development of the Confucius Institute.

The meeting

Andrew Hugine reviewed the vigorous development of the Confucius Institutes at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, and stressed that the Confucius Institute has become an integral part of the University and has had a great impact on the multicultural development of the local community. In response to the different voices of a small number of people in America on the development of Confucius Institutes, he said that the development of Confucius Institutes, like the development of other things, is not always smooth, and may move forward, be stagnant or even backward at a certain stage, which is, however, only temporary and does not change the general trend of things moving forward. History has proved that the trend of mutual exchange and common development among different cultures is irresistible. The development of the Confucius Institute at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University has always followed the rules and norms of American academia. Not long ago, the agreement renewed by Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University and the Confucius Institute Headquarters on continuous cooperation of building the Confucius Institute at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University demonstrates well the principle of Confucius Institutes. It is believed that in the next five years, with the support of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the joint efforts of China-America universities and the staff of the Confucius Institute, the Confucius Institute at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University will achieve greater success.
