Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University Holds the 12th Anniversary Celebration

On August 15th, the 12th Anniversary Celebration of the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University (Chula), Thailand, was held in Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building at the University. This event is also to celebrate the 44th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand and the 70th anniversary of the founding of China. People attending the event included Pomthong, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, Geng Gan, Foreign Director of the Confucius Institute, Professor Fu Zengyou, Senior Advisor to the Confucius Institute, Yang Xin, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, Li Renliang, the professor at Thailand’s National Institute of Development Administration, Dr. Chen An from the Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University, Zhang Dong, Founder of Artop Media (Thailand) Co., Ltd, Yang Zhou, the journalist of Xinhua News Agency’s branch in Bangkok, Miao Rong, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, Chen Songquan, a graduate student of Tsinghua University, and some Chula teachers and students and people from all walks of life in Bangkok.

This celebration consists of two sections, namely a photo exhibition and a seminar. Specifically, the exhibition presented the guests with the achievements that the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University has attained over the past 12 years. And the theme of the seminar was China-Thailand relations, and the guests gave an introduction to China-Thailand exchanges in the new era.

Geng Gan pointed out in her speech that since the establishment 12 years ago, the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University has been playing an active role in offering Chinese courses and holding Chinese cultural activities. Caring for the China-Thailand friendship, the Institute has also made positive contributions to the peaceful and friendly relations among the two countries in a diligent and pragmatic manner.

Miao Rong read a congratulatory letter from Tian Gang, Vice President of Peking University. Tian Gang expressed that over the past 12 years, the two universities have conducted sincere cooperation and have made gratifying achievements and the establishment of the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University is a witness to the cooperation and exchange between the two. He also expressed his gratitude for all the people who have worked hard for the establishment and development of the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University. At the same time, he wished the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University every success and the friendship between the two universities would endure.

Pomthong pointed out that over the past 12 years, the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University has achieved fruitful results with the full support of Peking University and Chulalongkorn University and the joint efforts of all previous Chinese and foreign directors of the Institute. These achievements have promoted the exchange and development of Thai and Chinese culture and also advanced the bilateral relations to embark on a new journey. Finally, he hoped that the two countries could work hand in hand to create a win-win situation and wished the friendship between the two countries would last forever.

In addition, Yang Xin presented a speech on the 70-year development achievements of China and China-Thailand relations. He further noted that with the continuous development of the two countries, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Thailand has brought great benefits to the two peoples and ushered in broad prospects for development. The Chinese Embassy in Thailand is willing to play an active role in building a bridge of communication for the public.

Afterward, the guests carried out a discussion on the “Dimensions of China-Thailand Relations” and gave speeches on the five topics of business and investment, entertainment culture, politics and law, the impact of China’s artificial intelligence research on Thailand, and Thailand from the perspective of China, in which the audience showed great interests, adding a lively touch to the event.
