On July 22nd, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Great Hall of the People.


On July 22nd, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Great Hall of the People. Before their talks, Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the East Gate Square of the Great Hall of the People.

After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the exchange ceremony of a number of bilateral cooperation documents. Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, and Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education of the UAE, exchanged the MoU to Introduce the Chinese Language in UAE Primary and Secondary Education System signed by each other.

According to the MoU, the two sides will further establish in-depth cooperation in the Chinese language teaching. They will work together to select Chinese teachers to teach in the primary and secondary schools in the UAE, designate Chinese experts, compile the syllabus for Chinese language teaching and a series of textbooks, develop tests for Chinese language proficiency, and establish Chinese language learning centres at public schools. The signing of the MoU makes the UAE the first Arabic-speaking country to integrate Chinese language into the national education system, making positive effects on the Chinese teaching in the UAE.


Promotion activities for the Chinese curriculum in the new semester of the Confucius Institute at Zayed University in UAE

As the China-UAE relations get closer, the Chinese teaching in the UAE is thriving. To implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, the Confucius Institute Headquarters has assigned 33 teachers to 15 primary or secondary schools in the UAE and designated Chinese language teaching consultants to the UAE Ministry of Education. This year, according to the requirements of the UAE, more than 100 teachers are recruited. Up to now, 2 Confucius Institutes have been opened in the UAE and 8,031 students have been registered by the end of 2018. The Confucius Institute and the Chinese Teaching Cooperation Project built a bridge for further promoting the China-UAE people-to-people exchanges and deepening the understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
