Confucius Institute in Munich Celebrates 10th Anniversary

On July 5th, a ceremony was held in Munich, Germany to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute in Munich. Nearly one hundred people including government officials and business representatives from China and Germany attended the ceremony.

Zhang Yue, Chinese Consul General in Munich, said in his speech that since its establishment, the Confucius Institute in Munich has made great contributions to deepening mutual understanding, and to developing friendly relations between the two countries. In the past ten years, the Confucius Institute in Munich conducted Chinese teaching and promoted Chinese culture to German from all walks of life, and it had emerged as an essential platform for Chinese to get to know Munich and German culture.

On behalf of local authority, Thomas Gruber, Head of Europe, International Relations, Mass Media Department of Bavarian State Chancellery, praised the achievements scored by the Confucius Institute in Munich during the past ten years. He said that the Confucius Institute in Munich has played a key role in developing German-China friendship and partnership. China standing as one of the most important trade partners of Bavaria, Chinese culture has enriched the content of Bavarian culture. And the Confucius Institute in Munich has facilitated locals to know oriental civilization better.

Gao Fangfang, German Director of the Confucius Institute in Munich, said that the Confucius Institute in Munich, in the past decade, has grown up like a child little by little, and won increasing appreciation and recognition. From now on, the Institute will steadfastly pay equal attention to Chinese teaching and culture promotion, promote German-China cultural exchanges, and enhance people-to-people exchange to consolidate the basis of friendship.

It is introduced that the Confucius Institute in Munich is descended from the Confucius Classroom in Munich set up in 2009. In a decade, it has evolved as a center of introducing Chinese and Chinese culture in Munich and surrounding areas.
