Opening Ceremony of 2019 “Chinese Culture Immersion Program” Organized by the Confucius Institute at University of the Bahamas Held in Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology

On the afternoon of June 17th, the opening ceremony of the 2019 “Chinese Culture Immersion Program” organized by the Confucius Institute at University of the Bahamas was held at C101 auditorium of the Training Building on the campus of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST). The ceremony was attended by Prof. Liu Xuanfei, vice president of NUIST, Dr. Remelda J. Moxey, dean of the faculty of business, hospitality and tourism studies, Dr. Lottis Shearer-Knowles, dean of the faculty of liberal arts, Dr. Carlton Watson, dean of the faculty of pure and applied sciences, prof. Fan Yong, Chinese Co-Director of the Confucius Institute, the leaders of the College of International Students at NUIST and 22 educators and students from the Bahamas. The Ceremony was presided over by Prof. Ma Tinghuai, dean of the College of International Students.

Vice president Liu Xuanfei gave a speech on behalf of NUIST, extending a warm welcome to the Bahamian educators and students visiting China. He also gave a brief introduction to the history of NUIST, and expressed the hope that the Bahamian visitors can deepen their understanding of Chinese Culture in the two-week culture immersion program.

Dr. Remelda J. Moxey and Miss Ebonesse Arnelle Bain spoke on behalf of the Bahamian educators and students respectively. They both conveyed their gratefulness to Chinese Government, Hanban and NUIST for hosting this program. They hoped everyone can value this opportunity to experience and learn authentic Chinese culture.

At the ceremony, the international students currently studying in NUIST performed popular songs and dances the Bahamian visitors, which drew war applauses from the audience. In the following two weeks, the participants of the program will take Chinese culture courses in Kung fu, Tea Art, Calligraphy, Traditional Chinese painting, paper cutting, etc.

The 2019 Chinese Culture Immersion Program was sponsored by Confucius Institute Headquarters and hosted by NUIST, with the aim of promoting Chinese culture and promulgating the Chinese story.
