On the afternoon of June 23rd, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Jean-Claude Gakosso, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Congolese Nationals Abroad, at the Diaoyutai State Guest House. After the talks, Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, and Daniel Owassa, Ambassador of the Republic of Congo to China, signed the “Agreement on the Joint Establishment of the Confucius Classroom at the School De La Révolution of the Republic of Congo” under the witness of State Councilor Wang Yi and Minister Gakosso.

The Republic of Congo, also referred to as Congo (Brazzaville), is located in the central and western part of Africa, with an area of 340,000 square kilometers and 5.26 million people. Its official language is French. The capital, Brazzaville, has a population of 1.56 million. The School De La Révolution is located in Mpila of Brazzaville. It is one of the most modernized and well-equipped middle schools in the country. The school covers an area of over 200 acres and currently accommodates more than 18,000 students. At present, there are a total of 693 students in 13 classes learning Chinese in the school.

In 2012, the Republic of Congo established the first Confucius Institute at the University of Marien NGOUABI. In the past seven years, people in the capital of Congo have become increasingly interested in learning Chinese. Therefore, students in this Confucius Institute have also become more and more diversified. Chinese has become one of the most popular foreign languages among local people. The establishment of the Confucius Classroom at the School De La Révolution will further inspire the enthusiasm of local young people for learning Chinese, cultivate more cultural ambassadors of China-Congo exchanges, and help carry forward the friendship between the two countries.
