Establishment of Confucius Classroom at University Quisqueya of Haiti

On the morning of May 31st, Jacky Lumarque, President of University Quisqueya of Haiti (UNIQ) and his delegation, visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters and held talks with Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters. They jointly signed The Agreement on Establishment of Confucius Classroom between UNIQ of Haiti and Confucius Institute Headquarters. Liu Ying, President of Heilongjiang International University, witnessed the signing ceremony.

Haiti is located in the northern Caribbean of North America with an area of 27,800 square kilometers. Its official languages are French and Creole. Its population is 12 million and its capital is Port-au-Prince. The offices of commercial development of China and of Haiti were successively established in each other’s capitals in January 1997 and February 1998. Founded in 1988, UNIQ is a top private university in Haiti, which is located in the west of Port-au-Prince. UNIQ is committed to high-quality higher education and refined academic research. Adhering to the concept of international education, it has established cooperative relations with more than 10 countries such as Canada, the United States and France.

The Confucius Classroom at UNIQ is the first of its kind in Haiti, which will focus on the practicality and professional relevance of Chinese teaching according to the local actual needs. It will cultivate compound talents that have a good command of both Chinese and technology and will play a positive role in developing educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation and promoting mutual understanding and friendship between China and Haiti.
