The successful convening of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations and the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2019 has sparked a wave of economic and cultural communication between China and the rest of the world and charted diversified directions for the international inter-city exchanges. On May 18th, a delegation led by Zhang Shuofu, Secretary of CPC Guangzhou Committee, participated in Guangzhou-Auckland-Los Angeles tripartite economic and trade cooperation activities in Auckland, New Zealand.

On May 20th, Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holding Limited (GPHL) established the cooperative relationship with the Confucius Institute at the University of Auckland (CIUA) and they jointly held a news conference on the joint cultural construction, indicating that the two sides would carry out cooperation centering on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) cultural promotion in the future. Government officials from Guangzhou and Auckland, Xiao Yewen, Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate-General in Auckland, Yao Zaiyu, Director of the CIUA, Li Chuyuan, Chairman of GPHL, Weng Shaoquan, General Manager of Guangzhou Wanglaoji Great Health Industry Co., Ltd. and other guests attended the event.

GPHL also signed contracts with the University of Auckland on setting up “New Zealand Wanglaoji Auspiciousness Cultural Ambassador Scholarship”. This was the first overseas scholarship established by GPHL, aiming at supporting the students at the University of Auckland to take internships in Guangzhou and cultivating TCM cultural communication ambassadors.

TCM is a “key to the door of Chinese cultural treasure-house” and a bridge linking the friendly communication between China and the rest of the world. According to the white paper Traditional Chinese Medicine in China, TCM has been spread to 183 countries and regions.

Taking the tripartite economic and trade cooperation activities as an opportunity to advance the internationalization of TCM culture, GPHL jointly held a news conference on the joint cultural construction with CIUA. GPHL granted the plaque of “ShennongCaotang Traditional Chinese Medicine Cultural Communication Center” to the CIUA, suggesting the cooperative relationship between the two sides. In the future, the two sides will carry out cooperation on such fields as training of core talents and sharing of TCM education, accelerate the mutual learning between TCM and international health philosophies, and lay a more profound foundation of talent and science and technology for the globalization of TCM.
