On May 13th, local time, the unveiling ceremony of the Business Confucius Institute at ESCP Europe, jointly established by Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and ESCP Europe Business School, was held in Paris. More than 100 people attended the ceremony, including Jérôme Chartier, First Vice President of the Île-de-France Regional Council, Buon Tan, President of the French-Chinese Parliamentary Friendship Group, Frank Bournois, Dean of ESCP Europe Business School and Chairman of the Council of the Business Confucius Institute at ESCP Europe, Zhai Jun, Chinese Ambassador to France and Yan Guohua, Vice President of BFSU, and they delivered speeches. Other people included Yang Jin, Minister-Counselor for Education of the Chinese Embassy in France and representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises in France, French industrial and commercial enterprises and French education communities.

Zhai Jun said that this year marks the 55th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations. At present, there is a strong momentum of people-to-people and cultural exchanges as well as cooperation between China and France. The two peoples, especially the youth, have keen interest in learning each other’s language and culture. In France, 110,000 young people are learning Chinese language; in China, the number of French language learners has exceeded 130,000. In this increasingly volatile and unstable world, it is particularly important to enhance cultural exchanges among various countries and eliminate misunderstanding and prejudice among the peoples. As respective representatives of eastern and western civilizations, China and France bear special responsibility for that goal. Zhai Jun hoped that the Confucius Institute will open a new window for the people of the two countries, especially the youth, to know more about each other, deepen mutual understanding and enhance friendship and consequently reserve more talents dedicated to the lasting and in-depth development of China-France relations.

He said that the Business Confucius Institute at ESCP Europe will become a window for local people to learn Chinese language and culture, and will contribute to promoting Chinese culture and advancing China-France economic and trade exchanges.
