Chinese Principals' Delegation Visit Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College

Organized by the Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College, a delegation of 47 principals from universities, secondary and primary schools in Jiangsu Province paid a visit to the Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College on May 13th.

A welcome ceremony, hosted by Jenny Bromley, Vice-Principal and Director of the Confucius Classroom, was held at the Earth Science Centre. Both China’s and Australia’s national anthems were played first. Then three international students and Principal Lynita Taylor gave welcome speeches.

Scot Brown and Daniel Hardy, leading teachers of Mount Clear College, gave presentations about the teaching, teacher development and resilience program of the school. Everybody was actively involved in the activities given by the teachers and also asked some questions. Finally, Jenny and Jijun Yang, Chinese Director of Confucius Classroom, gave a brief introduction about the development and Chinese language and culture teaching of the Confucius Classroom.

Led by some students learning Chinese and Chinese teachers, the delegation observed some classroom teaching.They came to the Confucius Classroom at the Language Center where Chinese language teaching is conducted. They attended a lecture on the TPRS(Teaching Proficiency through reading and storytelling) approach given by Jess McCulloch, a local leading Chinese teacher, and observed her Chinese teaching for Grade 7. All the delegates were greatly interested in such a new approach of teaching and were also deeply impressed about the students’ active involvement in the classroom activities.
