Confucius Institute at Yamanashi Gakuin University in Japan Established

On May 12th, the Confucius Institute of Yamanashi Gakuin University in Japan held its unveiling ceremony and became the 15th Confucius Institute in Japan.

Located at the foot of Mount Fuji in Koufushi City of Yamanashi Prefecture, Yamanashi Gakuin University is a renowned private university in Japan. The Confucius Institute of Yamanashi Gakuin University was jointly established by Yamanashi Gakuin University and Xi’an Jiaotong University. In December 2018, the two universities officially signed an agreement on co-establishing the Confucius Institute at Yamanashi Gakuin University.

At the ceremony, Koji Furuya, President of Yamanashi Gakuin University, conveyed his expectation that as a communication platform, the Confucius Institute would help local residents to learn the Chinese language and to better understand the Chinese culture, and promote friendly relations between the two countries.

Xi Guang, Vice President of Xi’an Jiaotong University, expressed his wish that the Confucius Institute of Yamanashi Gakuin University would play an active role of cooperation and communication, further expand collaboration between the two universities and promote cultural exchanges between China and Japan.

In his speech, Hu Zhiping, Minister-Counselor of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, said that as the 15th Confucius Institute in Japan, the Institute was set up at the time when China-Japan relations have returned to the normal track, and he expected that the Confucius Institute would grow into a first-class Institute of its kind worldwide.
