On April 25th, Yu Yunfeng, Deputy Director-General of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, and his party visited the Ministry of Education of Saudi Arabia and talked with Dr. Nayef, Vice-Minister of Education of Saudi Arab, over issues on implementing the results of Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud’s visit to China and promoting Chinese language teaching in schools and universities in Saudi Arab.

Nayef expressed his welcome to the delegation from the Confucius Institute Headquarters and said that they were seriously implementing the results of the crown prince’s visit to China and were drawing up plans for Chinese teaching in schools and universities of Saudi Arabia. He appreciated his Chinese partners for their timely assistance. Both sides discussed in depth such issues as establishing a coordination mechanism for Chinese teaching, setting up a Confucius Institute in Saudi Arabia, training Chinese teachers, compiling textbooks and deciding on examination sites for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK). After the talks, Yu Yunfeng and Nayef attended the conference organized by the Ministry of Education of Saudi Arabia, at which they exchanged ideas about the follow-up work with some departments in the Ministry of Education of Saudi Arabia responsible for development planning, teacher training, textbook compiling and sending scholarship recipients abroad, with seven universities planning to establish the Confucius Institute or to set up the Chinese language department.

Officials from the Chinese Embassy in Saudi Arabia and Beijing Language and Culture University were present.
