Iran Expediency Discernment Council Delegation Visits Confucius Institute Headquarters

On the afternoon of April 26th, 2019, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, former Speaker of Iran Parliament, Member of Iran Expediency Discernment Council, and Head of Saadi Foundation, led a delegation to the Confucius Institute Headquarters. Zhao Guocheng, Deputy Director-General of Hanbanmet and held talks with the delegation. The two sides exchanged views on supporting the development of Chinese teaching in Iran, enlarging the youth communication between China and Iran, and enhancing exchanges as well as cooperation between the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the Saadi Foundation in Iran.

Zhao Guocheng expressed his welcome to the visit of Haddad-Adel and introduced the development of the Confucius Institute. Zhao stated that in recent years, a fast growth in international demand for Chinese language use and thus the number of Confucius Institutes with diverse forms of cooperation, promotes the vigorous development of language and cultural communications. He also said that the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation happened to be held in Beijing today. As the communication in language and culture is a significant aspect in people-to-people bonds, the Confucius Institute Headquarters is willing to continuously support the development of Chinese teaching in Iran and enhance the educational cooperation and communication between the two countries.

Haddad-Adel pointed out that with the promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative, there is an increasingly close cooperation between Iran and China and there are more and more young people in Iran hoping to learn Chinese. China and Iran, two ancient civilizations with time-honored histories, attach great importance to promoting the native languages. In recent years, the Confucius Institute has a growing international influence while Iran has also established the Saadi Foundation to promote the development of Persian education. Both institutions are similar in functions and purposes. Haddad-Adel concluded that the Saadi Foundation is and will be willing to enhance cooperation with the Confucius Institute Headquarters, so as to make joint efforts to promote the thorough development of Iran-China cooperation and enhance the friendly exchanges between the two peoples.

Before the talks, the delegation visited the culture experience center and the exhibition of teaching materials in the Confucius Institute Headquarters in high spirits.
