The unveiling ceremony of the Confucius Institute which was jointly established by the Federal University of Ceara in Brazil and Nankai University in China was held on April 10th in Fortaleza, the capital of Ceara. It is the 10th Confucius Institute in Brazil.

Yan Yuqing, Consul General of Chinese Consulate in Recife, Li Jing, Vice President of Nankai University, Cesar Ribeiro, Government Representative of Ceara, and President of the Federal University of Ceara Henry Camps, attended the ceremony.

Yan Yuqing said in his speech that with the joint efforts of the two schools, more and more Brazilians have entered the Confucius Institute and become the friendship ambassadors between China and Brazil. It is hoped that the Confucius Institute will play a more active role in promoting China-Brazil friendly relations and the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Henry Camps said that the setting up of the Confucius Institute could bring the distance between Ceara and China closer. In addition to students, local government officials and entrepreneurs can also learn about China through the Confucius Institute and contact Chinese partners to promote trade between Brazil and China.

The Confucius Institute at the Federal University of Ceara has been set up after years of hard work. Six Chinese classes were opened last year, with a total of 165 students, including university students, government officials and members of the community.
