On the afternoon of April 9th, 2019, a delegation led by Francesco Alario, Head of Confucius Classroom of Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II, and Vice President of Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II Faffaella Mutignani visited Confucius Institute Headquarters and held talks with Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, on setting up a Confucius Classroom alliance of boarding schools in Italy and deepening youth communications between China and Italy as well as backbone teacher training and other affairs.

Ma Jianfei welcomed the delegation led by Francesco Alario. He noted that, in the letter of response to teachers and students of Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II in March this year, President Xi Jinping spoke highly of the Chinese language teaching achievements and encouraged the students to become cultural ambassadors between China and Italy in this new era, which greatly inspired Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms in Italy and the world at large. Later, Ma Jianfei also sent a letter to President Reale and expressed that the Headquarters will fully support the development of the Confucius Classroom of Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II and help the students achieve the “Chinese Dream”.

Francesco Alario conveyed President Reale’s greetings and letter of response to Ma Jianfei and gave an introduction to the running model and teaching philosophy of the Confucius Classroom. He said that, with the great support of the Headquarters and after ten years of exploration and efforts, Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II not only successfully incorporated Chinese language into its credit course system but also set an example for other Italian boarding schools in carrying out Chinese language teaching. So far, presidents of 12 schools have signed a joint letter and expressed their hope to learn the advanced model and management experience of Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II and to make positive contributions to cultivating more cultural ambassadors between China and Italy.

Ma Jianfei noted that the achievement made by the Confucius Classroom cannot be achieved without the joint effort of Chinese and Italian teachers and other staff. The Headquarters will continue sending outstanding Chinese language teachers to Confucius Classrooms, encourage relevant sides in China and Italy to jointly set up “New Marco Polo Foundation” to fund more Italian students to pursue further study in China, support Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II in taking the lead to establish a Confucius Classroom alliance of boarding schools in Italy, sharing experience and resources so as to jointly improve the overall level and quality of Chinese language teaching in Italian secondary schools.
