Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College Joined the Activity Named "Walk for Autism Ballarat"

On April 6 local time, the 2nd April World Autism Day, Walk for Autism Ballarat, organized by Ballarat Autism Network, kicked off at Lake Wendouree playground @ picnic area. Jijun Yang, Chinese Director of the Confucius Classroom of Mount Clear College, and Kris Schmidt, the leader of Ballarat Autism Network, participated in the event.

At 11:00, Kris Schmidt gave a speech about autism and the importance of autism awareness to around 200 citizens and children with autism. Then everybody held a blue band and walked around the lake for about half an hour.

At 11:45, all the people walked back to the playground & picnic area and enjoyed various entertainment activities. Jijun Yang showed and taught some kids with autism Taichi and Taichi Fan, winning a lot of praises from the parents and local citizens.

After that, Jijun Yang and Kris Schmidt talked about the teaching of Chinese, paper-cutting and Taichi planned to be undertaken at Ballarat Specialist School. Both of them have agreed that the Confucius Classroom and Ballarat Autism Network will cooperate on teaching Chinese language and culture for children with autism in Ballarat and the program will start next term in May.
