China and Thailand Jointly Hold Farewell Meeting for 17th Batch of Volunteer Chinese Teachers

From March 8th to 18th, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) Representative Office in Thailand worked with all the education commissions of Thai Ministry of Education to host a farewell meeting for the 17th batch of volunteer Chinese teachers in Bangkok.

Peera Ruttanawijit, Deputy Secretary of the Basic Education Commission, Prachakhom Chantharachit, Deputy Secretary of the Vocational Education Commission, Chadarat Singhadechakul, Assistant Secretary of the Higher Education Commission, Prayoon Rangsub, the educational project development commissioner of the Private Education Commission of Thailand, Wang Huichang, Director of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) Representative Office in Thailand, the heads of Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms in Thailand, the educational program officials and volunteer Chinese teacher advisors attended this meeting, bidding farewell to the volunteer Chinese teachers.

Peera Ruttanawijit, Deputy Secretary of the Basic Education Commission addressed that the volunteer Chinese teachers promoted their Chinese teaching in Thai schools, mitigated their teacher shortage problem, improved Thai students’ Chinese proficiency which made them more competitive on the world stage and enhanced the friendly relationship between Thailand and China. On behalf of Thai Ministry of Education, he expressed his sincere thanks to the volunteer Chinese teacher project, and extended good wishes to the continuous and in-depth development and fruitful results of the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

In his remarks, Wang Huichang expressed his gratitude to the full support of the volunteer project from the Education Commissions of the Thai Ministry, acknowledged the diligence and selflessness of the volunteer Chinese teachers during their one-year work in Thailand, and stated that Chinese education in Thailand has made a great achievement through groups of volunteer Chinese teachers’ continuous efforts. And he also encouraged those volunteer Chinese teachers to hold fast their original aspiration to keep dedicating to the friendship between China and Thailand, to act as devoted practitioners and to be prepared for greater challenges in the years to come.

In their addresses, the representative volunteers of different commissions depicted every detail of their living and working experiences in Thailand, including their changes from being unaccustomed to Thai culture to being reluctant to leave and from beginners to experts in teaching. Those volunteers all felt grateful to their experiences and were proud of being volunteer Chinese teachers in Thailand.

During the meeting, the educational officials from both China and Thailand commended over one hundred outstanding volunteer Chinese teachers, conferred certificates to the members of the service and administrative teams and the departing volunteer Chinese teachers, and took a group photo with them.

So far, the farewell meeting for the 17th volunteer Chinese teachers co-hosted by both China and Thailand has come to a successful end. After having accomplished Chinese teaching in the 2018-2019 school year, more than 1600 volunteer Chinese teachers, carrying the friendship between the two nations, returned to China in succession.
