Upon Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming state visit to Italy, Paolo M. Reale, President of Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II and eight students wrote to President Xi Jinping, expressing their eager anticipation of President Xi Jinping’s visit and the good will to work on China-Italy friendly relations. In a letter of response to the Italian teachers and students, President Xi Jinping encouraged them to become cultural ambassadors between the two countries in the new era.

In his letter, Xi Jinping said that I have received your letter and I am very pleased to see that the students can express themselves in fluent Chinese.

Xi Jinping said in his letter that your school has successfully opened a Chinese language international scientific high school and nurtured a host of young men and women devoted to promoting China-Italy friendly relations. In your letter, the students said the Confucius Classroom program has provided you with an opportunity to have a closer look at China and enabled you to see the vastness of the world and the value of cultural diversity. This is a harvest you have reaped from learning and practice. I highly appreciate your determination to promote dialogue of minds and cultural exchanges between the young generations of the two countries and cement the friendship between the two peoples. I hope you will become modern-day Marco Polos, as cultural ambassadors between Italy and China in this new era.

Xi Jinping said in his letter that youth always goes hand in hand with dreams. You are going to graduate from high school and embark on college life. May all of you give full play to your youth and realize your dreams. You are welcome to study and work in China, and I hope China will be the place where your dreams come true.

Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II is a prestigious school in Italy. In 2009, the school opened a five-year-term Chinese-language international scientific high school equipped with the biggest Confucius Classroom in Italy, thus learning Chinese language and Chinese culture became common practice among students.

Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II is a large-scale comprehensive national boarding school integrating elementary school, junior high school, liberal art high school, scientific high school, music high school, P.E. high school, and a Chinese-language international scientific high school.

The school is committed to providing students with modern and international courses that are more in line with the demands of the times. It provides students with a broad international vision and cultivates a full range of talents in accordance with the global integrated development environment. It is a well-known school in Rome.

To further enrich curriculums and improve students’ internationalization, Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II took the lead in offering Chinese language compulsory courses in the high school in 2009, becoming the first and the only national scientific high school in Italy to bring in Chinese as the first foreign language.
