On February 2nd, the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University (SF State), in association with the Association of Chinese Students & Scholars of five universities in San Francisco Bay Area (University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco State University, University of San Francisco, Academy of Arts University, California College of the Arts), co-sponsored the 2019 “Beautiful China” Spring Festival Celebration Gala at Annex Student Center on campus. More than 800 faculty, staff and students from five universities and audiences from diverse and multicultural communities gathered together to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival.

Deputy Consul General Yonghong Zou from Chinese Consulate in San Francisco gave her welcome remarks with sincerely wishes for Happy Year of the Pig to all audiences and families, highly recommended Chinese communities upon contributions to local education, economics, and technology development, building friendship between two great countries and sharing Chinese language and culture with people from all over the world. Mr. Scott Wiener, State Senator of California State delivered welcome speech to all participants, emphasizing the benefits from promoting Chinese culture in the San Francisco Bay Area and expressing the best wishes for better and stronger friendship between the U.S. and China. The remarks by both keynote speakers highlighted the Spring Festival Gala at SF State as the most important event in celebrating the major Chinese Festival for family reunion, showing the best wishes for Happy Chinese New Year.

The Gala was perfectly presented, featuring four themes: The Youth, Growing Up, Fighting for Dream, and Blossoming. The art troupes from Bay Area and the students from five universities prepared twenty Chinese arts and culture performances for all participants to enjoy the celebration of Chinese New Year, including : the sensuous moves of Chinese dance, amazing contortion acrobatics, lovely children's song and dance, wonderful Chinese Kung Fu show as well as some other special and unique performances such as magic show, comedy, rap, hip-hop. The audiences enjoyed all the performances with enthusiasm.

The audiences appreciated the Confucius Institute at SF State for its hardworking and contributions to the promotion of cultural exchanges and were very grateful to have the chance to celebrate traditional Chinese New Year with so many people from Bay Area. We all expect that more opportunities will be provided to the communities in Bay Area to learn the Chinese language and culture.
