Mandarin Courses Offered by Confucius Institute at University of the Bahamas Start off Successfully in New Semester

Recently, a variety of mandarin courses offered by the Confucius Institute at the University of the Bahamas started off successfully in the university and in two high schools.


the Chinese Course at St. Andrews International School

This semester, the Confucius Institute offered two-levels of credit mandarin courses; Elementary Chinese 1 which is intended for students with zero basis in Chinese. Adopting the HSK 1 standard textbook, the course aims at helping students pass HSK 1 test; Elementary Chinese 2 whichis intended for students who has completed Elementary Chinese 1 course. Adopting the HSK 2 standard textbook, the course aims at helping students pass HSK 2 test. Currently, there are 21 registered students in Elementary Chinese 1, and among the 21 registered students, 20 have passed the HSK 1 tests.

For the first time, the Confucius Institute started Elementary Mandarin I in the North Campus of University of the Bahamas this semester. Currently the credit mandarin courses offered by the Confucius Institute at the University are among the courses of four foreign languages for the students to select for compulsory foreign language study (the other three are French, Spanish and Creole).

This semester, the Confucius Institute also offered mandarin courses in two high schools in the Bahamas—C. R. Walker and St. Andrews. Doris Johnson is a top-ranking senior high school. The Confucius Institute will start delivering mandarin course for 15 nine-grade students there, which will last for three years. St. Andrews is a famous international high school in the Bahamas. This semester, the Confucius Institute offered mandarin courses for the school with the total number of students being 115 in 6 class.

Besides, the Confucius Institute will offer adult mandarin courses for Bahamian general public including Adult Elementary Mandarin I, Adult Elementary Mandarin II, Business Chinese, Fun Chinese for Kids and Introductory Chinese Summer Course.
