Confucius Institute at University of the Bahamas Hosts an End-of-Course Event for Adult Mandarin Students

On the morning of January 12th, 2019, the No. 5 Classroom in Building CHMI on the campus of the University of the Bahamas was filled to its capacity and alive with merriments. The end-of-course event for the 2018 Fall Semester mandarin students was taking place here. The attendant were over 20 students of the 2018 Fall Semester adult mandarin course together with their family members. These courses include “Adult Elementary Mandarin I”, “Adult Elementary Mandarin II”, “Business Chinese I” and “Introductory Chinese”.

The event was presided over by Prof. Fan Yong, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute. He first summarized the performance of the students the adult mandarin courses last semester, praising highly the devotion of everyone to the learning of mandarin and encouraging them to continue their learning of the language. Prof. Fan also presented to every student the certificate for the courses they completed.

Then Ms. Liu Dongmei, Chinese instructor of the Confucius Institute presented a vivid PPT lecture on the English loan words in Chinese, to which the attendants Ms. Liu’s lively lecture aroused laughs and applauses from the audience.

After this, the attendants tried their hands with enthusiasm at writing Chinese Characters with writing brushes. They were excited with such a novel experience.

Finally, the students and their Chinese instructors chatted cheerfully while enjoying a Chinese-style lunch, which brought the event to a successful completion.
