Celebrates 11th Anniversary

On November 28th, 2018, the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia (CIUV) celebrated her 11th anniversary in the University of Valencia(UV). Nearly 500 people witnessed the event.

The event consisted of two parts: the opening ceremony of an exhibition of photos offered by Chinese students and calligraphy works offered by CIUV students and a conference.

The major guests were M. Vicenta Mestre Escrivà, UV President; Carles Padilla Carmona, UV Vice President of international relationship; Francisco Tomás Vert, UV Former President; Manuel Costa, UV Former Vice President of international relationship and Wang Yan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Northeast Normal University.

The Participants

At the ceremony, students from the Confucius Institute gave wonderful performances, such as Guzheng solo, Wushu show, Chinese folk dances, Chinese famous chorus, Confucian classics recitals, dragon dances, etc.

These well-prepared programs lighted the conference hall. M. Mestre Escrivà delivered a warm and touching speech. She highly praised what the Confucius Institute had done in the past 11 years. She pointed out that CIUV had built up an important bridge for cultural exchanges between China and Spain. She specially mentioned great accomplishment in the bilingual Spanish-Chinese magazine Confucius Institute, which had been edited and published as many as 50 issues so far, and had far-reaching influences not only in Valencia, Spain, but also in other Spanish-speaking countries. She paid high tribute to the efforts and dedication of all the staffs in CIUV.

Wang Yan also expressed sincere gratitude to the staffs of the Confucius Institute, especially to Vicente Andrew, the Director. In his speech, he said that with the platform of the Confucius Institute, the University of Valencia and Northeast Normal University had carried out in-depth and pragmatic cooperation and achieved fruitful results. He hoped that greater achievements would be made in the coming years to further deepen the friendship and communication between China and Spain.

CIUV was founded in 2007. With the strong supports from Hanban, Northeast Normal University and the university of Valencia, CIUV has made advances since then. Over the 11 years, CIUV has consistently promoted Chinese language and culture and become trustworthy Chinese language and culture center in Valencia and Spain as well.
