On December 8th, 2018, the Saturday workshop—Folk Dancing, was held by Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka. More than 10 students and citizens attended the activity in the building of Faculty of Political Science.

Gao Yang, the Chinese teacher of CI, made a brief introduction of Chinese folk dancing to all the attendants, and explained the distribution area and features of several main folk dancing, such as Dai dancing, Xinjiang dancing, Inner Mongolia dancing etc. Then Professor Gao performed the whole dancing —“A girl from Dai Nationality”, in order to give them a direct impression of this feminine, exotic dancing.

Afterwards, Gao Yang started from base movements, like handy gestures, feet combinations and Dai ethnic jumping, leading attendants to master the key points. During the teaching, Gao Yang combined Chinese words and actions together smartly, making students grasped some Chinese words, such as “turn left” ”turn right” ”squat” subconsciously.

Before closing, Gao Yang exchanged dancing movements with the participants. All of them were eager to serve as dancing teacher temporarily and showing others the traditional Bosnian dancing.

After the activity

One hour passed quite soon. Everyone hoped it could have been longer. Especially Natasa Kiklic, who came to Gao and asked about the name and online resources of this kind of dancing. To her, it is such a soft, beautiful dancing, which is way much different from their own, and she hopes she could continue to learn it after this workshop.
