Agreements on Establishing 10 Confucius Institutes (Centers) Signed at 13th Confucius Institute Conference

On the morning of December 5th, at the 13th Confucius Institute Conference, the signing ceremony of the agreements on establishing 10 Confucius Institutes (Centers) was grandly held at Chengdu Century City New International Convention and Exhibition Center. More than 80 guests have attended the ceremony, including the presidents of both Chinese and foreign cooperative colleges and universities running the Confucius Institutes (Centers).

Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister of Education and Executive Council Member of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, attended the ceremony and witnessed the signing of agreements by Ma Jianfei, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director-General of Hanban, and the presidents of foreign colleges and universities.

Before the ceremony, Tian Xuejun had warm interactions with both Chinese and foreign presidents whose universities will run the 10 new Confucius Institutes.

In a joyous atmosphere, Tian Xuejun and leaders of the Headquarter as well as representatives from the Chinese and foreign schools witnessed signing of the agreements on establishing 10 Confucius Institutes, including the Confucius Institute at the University of Orléans in France, the Confucius Institute at Yamanashi Gakuin University in Japan, the Confucius Institute at the University of the Western Cape in the Republic of South Africa, the Confucius Institute at Medgar Evers College of the City University in New York of the US, the Confucius Institute at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, the Business Confucius Institute at Matej Bel University in Slovakia, the Confucius Institute at International Business Academy in Denmark, Chinese Language Training and Research Center at O.P. Jindal Global University, the Chinese Language Teaching Center at Lovely Professional University in India, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Battambang in Cambodia.

Later on, Tian Xuejun delivered an impassioned speech, expressing his heartiest congratulations to the Chinese and foreign guests attending the ceremony and sincerely welcoming them to become the members of Confucius Institutes.

Tian Xuejun pointed out that over the past 10 years, the Confucius Institute has kept “mutual respect, friendly consultation, equality, and mutual benefit” as its school motto, exploring and having developed a unique running mode featuring joint establishment and management as well as sharing between Chinese and foreign partner universities. Focusing on Chinese language teaching, the Confucius Institute has grown as a successful example for educational exchanges and cooperation across the globe by carrying out rich and colorful cultural exchanges and experience activities which are welcomed by both the governments and peoples from different countries. The establishment of the 10 new Institutes and Centers will surely promote the development of the Confucius Institute to a higher level.

Tian Xuejun hoped that the Chinese and foreign universities running newly-established Confucius Institutes could increase their support to strengthen the foundation of the cooperation and continuously elevate the teaching quality of the Confucius Institute. He also believed that with the joint efforts of the Chinese and foreign sides, the newly-established Confucius Institutes would thrive and top among the global network of Confucius Institutes, thus making due contributions to promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enhancing the friendship among peoples and building a community of shared future for mankind.
