Belt and Road International Forum on Education, Science and Culture Held in Elista

From November 15th to 17th, local time, the Belt and Road International Forum on Education, Science and Culture was held in the city of Elista, capital of the Republic of Kalmyk. The forum was co-organized by Kalmyk State University and the Confucius Institute at Kalmyk State University. Nearly 40 experts and scholars attended the forum. Orlov Aleksey Maratovic, President of the Republic of Kalmyk, Badmayev Bova Vasilyevich, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kalmyk, Sadriev Nikolai Zambrovic, Deputy Minister of Government Culture and Tourism, Rubeko Georgiy Leonidovich, Deputy Mayor of Elista, and Salaev Badma Katinovich, President of Kalmyk State University, attended the event.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Maratovic said that the forum was of great significance and would promote the economic cooperation between the two countries. Education, science and culture are the foundation of every country and nation, and they are also the inexhaustible driving force for the country to flourish.

Later, the famous Kalmyk singer Ervena Orgaeva did a solo “Horse Whip”, and international students also performed the stage play “Nuwa Creating Human Beings”, Kalmyk folk Dance “Horsemen” and other wonderful programs and won warm applause from the audience.

At the forum, Salaev Badma Katinovich gave a presentation entitled “Science Education Cooperation Between Kalmyk State University and Chinese Universities”. In his report, he pointed out that Kalmyk State University has been cooperating with Chinese universities for a long time, and it has already had cooperation with 13 Chinese universities in such fields as education and science. Kalmyk State University attaches great importance to the cooperative relationship with Chinese universities and actively promotes the development of Confucius Institutes.

Dr. Rahimbekova Lola Shacknovna from the Moscow State Linguistic University spoke on the topic “Background Knowledge Is an Important Part in Translating Chinese”. Soodbilig, a professor of Inner Mongolia University introduced the situation of Inner Mongolia University’s Chinese language teaching to Mongolian students. Maslowitz Olga Aleksandrovna, the associate professor of Moscow State Institute of International Relations, expounded her views on modern Chinese textbooks from the perspective of intentionality.

During the forum, the organizers also held the National Russian University Students Olympic Chinese Contest. Thirty-seven college students from Moscow Oblast, Kostroma Oblast, Kirov Oblast and other places took part in the contest. The contest consisted of two parts: written examination and oral examination. During the written part, the contestants appeared attentive and serious; in the oral part, the contestants tried their best to show their unique talents and skills. Finally, after intense competition, Filipchenko Ksenya Sergeyevna, a student from the Volgograd National Normal University, won the first place.

At the closing ceremony, Salaev Badma Katinovich made a concluding statement, suggesting that the cooperation agreements signed by various parties should be implemented as soon as possible.
